Monsterpocalypse fans had a brilliant weekend! We attended two huge Monsterpocalypse tourneys with great prizes.
On Saturday 21st January, there was the Monsterpocalypse RISE Support Kit1 Event. In this tourney, the top 8 players would get a Mega Zor- Raiden monster. and the rest gets a Monsterpocalypse Booster Box. How cool was that? There were quite a lot of players gathered and talking about the game while waiting for the tourney to start. I noticed there were quite a lot of players playing Zor-Maxim. Being a fledgling Shadow Sun Syndicate player, I thought, mmm...maybe the internet buzz about how powerful Zor Maxim could be are true...
As fate would have it, my first game was against Ong's Zor-Maxim! Crikey! I lost the dice roll and had a choice of which map to use. I chose Block Wars as I am relatively familiar with that map. Ong moved first and secured some buildings and Power Zones. I secured some Power Zones but did not secure any buildings (because I missed the rule that one gets Power Dice when buildings are secured). Ong told me after the game that he thought I had some secret strategy by not securing buildings on my first turn. Maybe he was being sarcastic. I'm sure he was! :) Anyway, my initial mistakes cost me the game as my poor Cthugrosh succumbed to Ong's Zor-Maxim. The other Zor-Maxim, belonging to Leon, won too, but Leon was an experienced player. The internet buzz might be right, but this is only the first round.
In the second round, I did not do too well either and lost against Terra Khan. I also lost in the third round against Gorghadra...boo hoo! I had a good time, though...getting a Unit Booster as a prize for being last. Not too bad. Then a player who had won the Mega Zor Raiden wanted to trade his prize with my Unit Booster. I agreed immediately and kissed my traded Mega Zor-Raiden several times, YAY!
The next day, on Sunday 22nd January, we attended the second tournament of the weekend. This time, I learnt my lessons from the previous day and brought Zor-Maxim. I lost one game and won 2, ending up third! Not too bad since I cloked in last the previous day. Leon's Zor-Maxim was first, BTW.
Now, it could be that players have not figured how to beat Zor-Maxim. Until they find out, I will be using Zor-Maxim in tourneys. ;)
We all had a fantastic Monstergorical weekend and look forward to more Monsterpocalypse Events.
