That's right! But there is no need to lock yourself in your house. It is safe to go outside. Monsterpocalypse - the game of fighting monsters - is here. It all adds up now! You see, my previous two SquarkBlog entries ('Solar Eclipse! What...?' and 'Creaturae Insolitus' ) alarmingly showed creatures of disproportionate size outside our SquarkGames HQ. It proved to be a false alarm because the hive they were building on the building next to us was only for receiving our shipment of Monsterpocalypse miniatures game - the game of fighting monsters! That's right - the aliens proved to be friendly. Mulder, eat your heart out. We saw them first.

We opened two Monsterpocalypse Series 1: RISE Starter Box and one Monsterpocalypse Series 1: RISE Unit Booster and started playing strightaway. It was Deimos-9 vs Terra Khan:

Deimos-9 (right) vs Terra Khan (left), whose tail seems to be on fire.

Our units skirmished around the Apartment Buildings for a while and Dave took over the Oil Refinery. Dave's Terra Khan moved in on my Deimos-9 and made a Body Slam Power Attack for one damage. Deimos-9, picked herself up and made a Throw Power Attack resulting in Terra Khan smashing through two buildings, doing massive damage to Terra, who limped away with one hit point left. At this moment, we stopped the game, as there was a crowd building around us. We explained the game to them and they were fascinated!

Monsterpocalypse looks like a superficial game of monster fight in a dense city. BEEP! INCORRECT! Monsterpocalypse is actually a tactical game of monster fight in a dense city. A certain amount of planning is required as the number of actions a player can perform per turn is limited by the amount of dice they have left. In this game, the special dice, which comes in the Monsterpocalypse Series 1: RISE Starter Box, are the resources which each player uses to perform actions. The management of these limited resources are required for optimal play and for winning the game.

Besides the tactical gameplay, the Monsterpocalypse miniatures are fully pre-painted, and they are really beautifully painted. No painting is required and these can be played stright out of the box. Wonderful!

We also have the Monsterpocalypse Comics which tell the story behind the game. Monsterpocalypse Comic Issue 1 and Monsterpocalypse Comic Issue 2 were also delivered by the friendly creatures.

Monsterpocalypse Comic Issue 1 being read by a shy SquarkGames fan.

We will definitely be playing lotsa Monsterpocalypse in the months to come. Squark!
